John M. O’Donnell – Partner
Mr. O’Donnell practices in the field of general litigation with a focus on insurance defense, personal injury and medical malpractice defense. In 2014 he was named a Rising Star in the field of General Personal Injury Defense by Superlawyer’s Magazine. He joined Cooney, Scully and Dowling in 2007.
Mr. O’Donnell works on a wide range of litigation matters with a focus on premises liability, automotive liability, medical malpractice defense, uninsured/under insured motorist defense, product liability and contract matters. In addition to his defense work, Mr. O’Donnell has recovered over a million dollars on behalf of injured clients.
Professional and Civic Activities
Mr. O’Donnell authored the chapter entitled “Demonstrative Evidence” in A Practical Guide to Evidence in Connecticut, published by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. in 2013.
Mr. O’Donnell is a member of the Town of West Hartford’s Planning and Zoning Committee and formerly served as chairman of the town’s Conservation and Environment Commission. He is a member and the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the American Collegiate Moot Court Association. Mr. O’Donnell also coaches the moot court team at his alma mater, the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. The team has been highly successful, earning bids to the national tournament every year since its inception with elite placements at the national competition most years.
Mr. O’Donnell is also a former Associate of the Hartford Section of the American Inns of Court and reached his maximum years of service in 2013.
While in law school Mr. O’Donnell was awarded the CALI award for excellence in both Trial Practice and Fundamentals of Advocacy.
